A charming seaside village full of hidden gems.

Sandgate is a lovely little coastal village between Hythe and Folkestone, a little hidden gem that's full of independent cafes and shops and also has a great beach.
You can easily spend an hour or so wandering the high street and then cutting through onto the nearby beach. If you happen to be passing through on a walk from Hythe to Folkestone, it's worth making time for a pit stop.
For really good coffee and the most fabulous selection of sweet treats, we'd recommend Orchard Lane Coffee House. Don't miss the Swedish buns; they are very good indeed and they're available in a wonderful array of flavours.

For great sourdough bread, cheeses and charcuterie, (plus sushi on a Friday) stop by the Sandgate Deli. They also hold yoga classes and art exhibitions in a dedicated space at the back of the shop.
There's also a great little wine shop, John Dory Wine, and Mr Whippets cafe that also does great coffee.
Sandgate is home to The Famous Ship Inn, a large, characterful pub with nautical-themed bars and a restaurant and outside terrace overlooking the sea, serving the standard traditional pub fayre. We've tried the Sunday roast and it was nicely cooked with generous portions.
The Providence Inne is on the high street. We're not tried it but it's on our list as the food looks good.
There's more to Sandgate than we've listed here, and we'll update this post as we visit more places.
