Our story

Hi, I’m Jo, and my husband Dave and I run our tiny adults-only camping and bell tent site Horton View Farm. We’ve been going on camping holidays ever since we were little – and safe to say we still love it now as much as we did then, packing up the car whenever we get the chance!

Camping gave us and our children (now grown up and avid campers themselves) a freedom like no other, but it’s definitely not just for kids. We love the way that camping allows us to get right back to nature and connect with our adventurous side, which is all too easily neglected when daily life is so busy. There’s nothing better, in our opinion, than waking up in a field, hearing the sounds of the birds and wildlife all around, and then stepping directly out into the sights and smells of the countryside to have a morning cuppa. You can go where the day takes you – cycling, wandering, cooking and eating, or just sitting, all without looking at phones or watches - going with the flow.

We’ve camped in all weathers – rain, hail, high winds, blistering heat - mostly in the UK and sometimes in Europe, and there’s something about being so close to the elements and nature that puts many of life’s stresses into perspective and makes us feel so alive. Being immersed in country life has taught us so much about the rhythms of nature and the importance of safeguarding this delicate ecosystem.

And so, after 30 years’ service, when Dave was too old to carry on in Kent Fire and Rescue, but too young to retire, we gave up town life and moved to the countryside permanently. I put my little art school business on hold to set up our intimate site that we hope embodies all of the best bits of our travels – we think having three great pubs within walking distance gives us a pretty good start! Our aim is to create a peaceful haven to allow grown-ups to unwind and have their own adventures.

And we’ve got plenty of our own adventures ahead. Our goal for future seasons is to run breaks and retreats that include art sessions and guided explorations of the area, so watch this space!

We feel so lucky to have our own little slice of paradise and we hope that it brings you, our guests, the same sense of peace and relaxation that we feel just being here every day. Our aim is that you leave feeling refreshed and rejuvenated with just a little more space to breathe.
